Mezzo-soprano Sophia Maekawa from Kyoto, Japan, is a recent graduate of the Ryan Opera Center ensemble member at Lyric Opera of Chicago.

Lyric opera of Chicago 2024 Rossini “La Cenerentola”

In the 2025/2026 season Ms. Maekawa looks forward to performing with the Art Song Chicago, covering Crab General/ Venus Star in “The Monkey King” with San Francisco Opera and making debuts in Chicago Opera Theatre and Opera Grand Rapids as well as the Beethoven 9th Symphony with the Binghamton Philharmonic.
