Mezzo-soprano Sophia Maekawa from Kyoto, Japan, is a second-year Ryan Opera Center ensemble member at Lyric Opera of Chicago.
This season at Lyric she looks forward to covering Cherubino/Le nozze di Figaro and performing Lee Ann/ The Listeners. Last season she appeared as Tisbe/La Cenerentola and Pastuchyna/Jenůfa. She is an alumni of Santa Fe Opera Apprentice program and Gerdine Young Artist program with Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. Ms. Maekawa graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music where she performed many roles
